Our dentist always tells our Fairfax Station-area patients how important basic dental hygiene is to their overall health and well-being. But while brushing, flossing and regular dental check-ups are quite important, you can also do a lot of good just by watching your diet.
In fact, our dentist understands that a sound diet is one of the most important things you can do to keep your teeth healthy.
After all, all the food you eat and all the beverages you drink make contact with your teeth and gums. That can’t fail to have an effect over a long enough period of time. Good oral hygiene, as described by our dentist, can help, but it’s best to limit your consumption of certain foods and beverages.
But what is a “sound diet” in a dental context? You are, of course, going to eat some things that aren’t great for your teeth. But these things, consumed in moderation, aren’t too harmful.
Try to limit your consumption of:
- Wine (red wine can stain your teeth)
- Fruit and vegetable juices
- Sugary snacks
- Acidic foods
Our dentist will answer any questions you might have about the proper diet.
